It's safe to say that the summertime means fun in the sun and what's more fun than beach-inspired hairstyles to accompany your summertime style! Whether its a lively night on the town, or a lazy day of sunbathing, you can achieve stylish yet doable looks as fast as it takes to brush the sand out of those "how did that get there" places. So pull up a beach chair, grab a margarita (or three), and check out some of my favorite summer-inspired hairstyles!
The beachy waves
Big, voluptuous waves are the perfect beach look. And I'm not talking Kim-Kardashian-full-glam-squad-and-hours-of-curling-and-hairspray-waves. I'm talking about the effortless, messy-chic waves that are perfect for bringing out the sexy beach goddess in any girl. To get this look, towel dry your hair and massage a volumizing product into your roots. Apply astyling creme of your choice in small sections working it through your ends. Grab a blow dryer and blow dry your hair downward while scrunching and twisting to give it that extra fullness. Add a braid to give it a fun summer look!

The windblown bob
We all know the sleek bob is the epitome of classic chic. But its ever increasing edginess has taken it to the next level and wearable for any occasion. A choppy, tousled bob is perfect for a day of outside activities. Simply grab a flat iron (after using a heat protectant of course!) and twist into sections of hair, alternating the flat iron inwards and outwards giving it a more unstructured look. Finish with astyling spray to keep your windblown style well-- windproof, and you're ready to go! To personalize your style, add a fun headband to make it pop!
The flirty pony

The most functional hairstyle is the pony. Turn a plain jane ponytail into a sexy beach ready style in a few quick, easy steps.
Holding a curling iron vertically, wrap small sections around the curling iron to get a wavy ribbon look. Apply an anti-frizz if you have curly hair to keep unruly hair in place then touch up with your curling iron if needed. Gather all of your hair into a pony with a clear hair tie. And finally, take out pieces to give it that messy look. Voila! Sexy, and functional!
Now that you're ready for all things summer, make sure to check in on upcoming beauty blogs that are going to be featured every week! Happy styling!

<![CDATA[OSCARS HAIR 2012: THE BIG WINNERS… AND THE SORE LOSERS]]> http://www.hairflix.com/blog/oscars-2012-hair/ With all of the excitement surrounding fashion’s biggest night in Hollywood, our staff here at Hairflix couldn’t wait to dive into our favorite part—glamorous Oscar hair! While most celebs tend to stay within the ‘classic’ and ‘elegant’ realm, some of this year’s Hollywood elite took a different approach with their red carpet styles. So who made us swoon over their sophisticated strands and whose Hollywood hair fell short of the style mark? Join us as we comb through our favorite—and least favorite looks of the 2012 Oscars!

Our top look of the evening comes from ‘Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ star Rooney Mara. Her elegant, yet edgy jet-black bun and heavy fringed bang was a daring red carpet showstopper! This iconic look was a perfect mixture of elegant Hollywood glam and ultra- modern edginess.

The always-sexy Angelina Jolie was the epitome of Hollywood glamour with her big, voluminous waves this year. Her lighter-than-usual golden brown hair had effortless body and bounce, proving that sex appeal comes easy to the 36-year-old style icon.

Honorable mention goes to ‘Bridesmaids’ actress Ellie Kemper with her sleek up-do and thick, blunt bangs. Her gorgeous copper hair color outshined the blondes and brunettes and made her one of our favorites of the evening.

And now for the Oscar hair losers!

Penelope Ann Miller was our choice for worst hair this year. Her unflattering dusty-blonde up-do paired with a juvenile thin headband had us wondering if she made a wrong turn onthe way to the junior prom.

We also weren’t impressed, to say the least, with Jennifer Lopez’s tight, retro up-do. Not only is it a look she’s done many times before, it was just too safe and went virtually unnoticed amidst the other spotlight-stealing looks on the red carpet.

And finally, Anna Faris’ bleached blunt bob was another look that stayed on the straight and narrow this year. The color was draining against her pale skin tone and the look as a whole was well—forgettable.

We can’t say we were blown away with this years Oscar styles—with a few exceptions. But the hits and misses are exactly what keep us coming back for more every year.

<![CDATA[TiGi Backstage NY Fashion Week 2012]]> http://www.hairflix.com/blog/tigi-fashion-week/ Vivienne Tam Fall/Winter 2012

Hair by TIGI Global Creative Director Nick Irwin

Inspired by an “outdoorsy girl on a Mongolian journey,” Vivienne Tam’s F/W 2012 collection fused an eclectic mix of textures and patterns with exquisite tailoring and earthy hues. TIGI Global Creative Director Nick Irwin worked with the designer to develop the perfect “east meets west” hairstyle to perfectly portray the tale of a nomadic runway girl’s adventure among the snow-‐capped peaks of the Himalayas.

Overall Look: A deep center part with a mixture of shine, sleekness and voluminous texture.

How-‐To:

1. Create a deep center part and spray the entire head with Catwalk by TIGI Sleek
Mystique Look Lock Hairspray.

 2. Using the TIGI Pro Professional Flat Iron, straighten hair from root to jawline and
spray with Catwalk by TIGI Your Highness Weightless Shine Spray to add hold
and shine.

3. Next, lightly back brush the hair from the jawline to ends, creating texture and
volume and then lightly clamp with the TIGI Flat Iron to lock in textures (be
careful not to fully straighten). Spray with the Look Lock Hairspray to set.

4. Finally, apply a small amount of Catwalk by TIGI Session Series True Wax to add
a bit more sleekness and shine to the top of the head.

<![CDATA[ Fresh Looks Curled, Colored and Straightened Their Way to Premiere Show 2011]]> http://www.hairflix.com/blog/premiere/

I think we died and went to hair heaven at this year’s Premiere Orlando Beauty Show! I was absolutely blown away (literally, by some of the newest powerful hairdryers) by the sea of hairstyles. From the smooth and styled waves of curls by new companies like Doll, to the bold and hard-hitting styles by Gangs of Aveda. The undeniable themes presented through-out the extravagant 2011 show were bold heights, brilliant (bordering neon) visible and hidden colors, and a modern renaissance style, not lacking corsets around every corner. There was definitely something for everyone!

From rookies (like myself) to professional beauty veterans, close to 50,000 attendees marveled at the Mainstage shows and learned new techniques in each of the 180 plus classes provided at the two day event. Don’t forget that this annual show is called the Premiere BEAUTY Show for a reason – encompassing not only hair professionals, but also nail, day spa, and makeup attendees who also learn, network, and share their beauty street smarts with others in the industry.

So what was Hairflix’s part in the show? Here are a few hints: microphones, a stage, a host, and more than a few fabulous faces! That’s right, you guessed it; Hairflix partnered with GreenHouse Social Media to interview the top names in the industry in search of all latest trends and upcoming secrets to share with you! Loreal, Redken, Surface, White Sands, Nick Arrojo, Aveda, Simplicity, Pureology and Allen Papaleo were among the interviewees, just to name a few. Then of course we can’t forget the beautiful Katie Cazorla, star of the upcoming reality show Nail Files; the always energetic, bad boys of Farouk, Joe Anthony and Rocky McCormick; and the hilariously fun personalities of Paul and Angus Mitchell.

Don’t worry, we won’t keep these entertaining and insightful interviews to ourselves for long. Make sure to keep an eye out on Hairflix TV for all the Premiere Orlando 2011 interviews. In the meantime, go to the Hairflix Facebook to see hundreds of photos highlighting the hottest styles. Can’t wait to see you there next year to check out the excitement for yourself!

<![CDATA[Johnny Depp's New Short Haircut Debuts at Pirate Premiere]]> http://www.hairflix.com/blog/johnny_depp/

There is only man I know that can pull off long untamed hair, scruffy facial hair, the vintage grunge style, then top it all off with necklaces and accessories galore, and STILL rank as one of the sexiest men alive! Now that is impressive. Who is this mystery man? Of course, none other than the best Pirate we have ever seen…Captain Jack Sparrow, aka, Johnny Depp. Just when we finally got used to his eccentric hot looks, he goes and changes the tides with a new short haircut at the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

While some of Depp’s fans are fretting over the loss of those luscious locks, our HairFlix stylists are praising his new edgier cut. This pirate chic, just rolled out of bed, messy but styled look, definitely keeps in line with Depp’s signature bad boy style. For those of you who disagree, don’t despair, hair always grows back! We all feel that need to change things up every once in a while – whether it’s trying a new styling product, smoothing out that undesirable frizz, or experimenting with a color change to test for yourself if blondes really do have more fun. It’s good to keep your look fresh!

Perhaps though, Depp’s stylists were unknowingly channeling another famous hottie with a very similar hairstyle. Can you guess who? Here’s a hint: go to Google and search for Water for Elephants and said mystery actors’ twin lookalike hairstyle is sure to pop right up. The answer: Mr. Twilight himself, Robert Pattinson.

So now I propose one of my favorite fashion games! Who wore it best? Comment below and let us know your votes because we just can’t decide!
